All pregnant women are offered an ultrasound scan at around 8-14 weeks of pregnancy. It's used to see how far along in your pregnancy you are and check your baby's development.
Your midwife or doctor will book you a dating scan appointment.
Advanced Ultrasound – This exam is similar to the standard ultrasound, but the exam targets a suspected problem and uses more sophisticated equipment.
The person performing the scan is called a sonographer.
Your prenatal visits will probably be scheduled every month until 32 to 34 weeks.
After that, they will be every two weeks until 36 weeks, and then weekly until delivery.
Sometimes a trans-vaginal examination shows that your pregnancy is less advanced than expected.
The earlier the ultrasound is done, the more accurate it is at estimating the baby's due date.
